The meaning of Maalstroom: First attested in the 16th century of which the word Maelstrom is derived. A compound of malen (grinding) + stroom (stream). An aquatic vortex, large whirlpool; especially a tidal vortex. Encompassing 3 elements of the brewing process. Grains are milled, water added, and a whirlpool employed to cool down the wort.
